As educators everywhere scramble for new and exciting ways to teach STEAM, Animado has an incredible event geared specifically for middle and high school students. The Journey into STEAM Pittsburgh is one of the best STEAM programs for teens.

What is Journey into STEAM?

Journey is an interactive event for middle and high school students spotlighting new and engaging technologies, practical applications of classroom instruction, and future career opportunities in emerging industries.

What’s included?

Forensics

Students will visit the crime scene house at Point Park University which is part of a one-of-a-kind National Security Training Center. Students will learn to analyze evidence and visit a computer lab that boasts the most current intelligence software for crime scene investigators.

Leadership

Leadership and teamwork are essential in the workplace.  Students will participate in skill-building and activities that demonstrate the importance of both and how they impact future careers. They’ll also have a whole lot of fun!

Lunch

Students will head downtown to Pittsburgh’s iconic Strip District to enjoy the flavors of Pittsburgh. “Yinz” are going to love it!

Artificial Intelligence and Self-Driving Vehicles

Argo AI was established to tackle one of the most challenging applications in computer science, robotics, and artificial intelligence: self-driving vehicles. At Argo, students will learn what it takes to bring this technology safely and reliably to market.

Carrie Blast Furnace and Iron Garden

Carrie Furnaces #6 and #7 are extremely rare examples of pre-World War II iron-making technology. They’re also the only remaining non-operative blast furnaces in the region since the steel industry collapsed in the 1970s and 80s. The Industrial Tour highlights the site’s iron-making technology, its workers, and their culture.

On this site, students also discover a dense variety of ecological growth on the Iron Garden Walk.  Highlights include an “addition by reduction” approach to working the wild gardens and a series of iron-casted plaques with botanical illustrations.

Kennywood

Kennywood is one of the oldest amusement parks in the country and boasts seven of the greatest coasters in the world! Journey into STEAM takes students behind the scenes to learn how physics is featured in both historic and cutting-edge park rides. They’ll analyze coasters, calculate acceleration, and factor in a hefty dose of fun as they spend the day at Kennywood Park!

Who can participate?

Middle and high school students are encouraged to take part in this special program.  It’s packed with unique learning opportunities that can only be found in the Pittsburgh region.

When is Journey into STEAM?

The journey begins on October 23, 2020.

Can we do more?

Yes! Pittsburgh has much to offer student groups. They can explore the Heinz History Center, ride the Duquesne Incline, visit Fort Pitt, see the city from the three rivers or stop at the Andy Warhol Museum. Students can investigate the Carnegie Museums of Art, Natural History, and Science or step into the vividly creative world of Randyland.

Pittsburgh is a warm and welcoming city with a rich tradition of history, arts, culture, industry, and sports. Take some extra time to experience some of its amazing attractions!

What does Journey into STEAM cost?

Journey is a first-rate STEAM program at a realistic price point. Students can participate at a cost of $254 per person; adults are $184 each.

Journey into STEAM is not your average science program. It’s completely different than anything you may have done before. It’s also one of the best STEAM programs for teens! Pittsburgh is uniquely endowed with a variety of STEAM resources, making Journey a one-of-a-kind learning experience.
