Halloo! London is a Great International Student Trip

Taking students abroad for a performance or educational trip can be overwhelming. Researching student-friendly destinations, understanding local customs or even dealing with language barriers all play roles in your decision. If it’s your first time, you might want to consider London for a great international student trip.

Iconic Sites

London is an old soul with a modern vibe. Its history is long and rich, spanning wars, royals, arts, architecture and more. Start at the Tower of London with its fascinating and horrifying saga of more than a thousand years. Visit the famed Piccadilly Circus or Covent Garden. Neither are quite what you’d expect from the names but worth the stops (and free to see). Westminster Abbey, built in 960 A.D. by Benedictine monks, will inspire you with its tradition and treasures. Iconic Buckingham Palace and the changing of the guard is a must-do but be sure to practice your best royal wave first!

Iconic Sights!

For a bird’s eye view of the city, ride the thrilling Coca-Cola London Eye, a 443’ observation wheel in the heart of London. St. Paul’s Cathedral also offers lovely vistas of the city from the Stone and Golden Galleries as well as an exquisite interior. Performance groups will goggle at the unique acoustics of the Whispering Gallery and all the kiddos will love heading down to check out the crypts.

Spooky Spots

Teenagers are all about the macabre, and the London Dungeon on the South Bank won’t disappoint. There are 19 live shows and two thrill rides highlighting London’s (sometimes) gory past. Continuing the theme, try a walking tour featuring the gruesome tales of Jack the Ripper in Victorian London. You’ll walk in the infamous steps of the East End killer, along with the investigators who tried to solve his horrific murders.

Trendy Tea and Tours

While “spilling the tea” is all the rage, Claridge’s is still the coolest place to serve it! You’ll love the experience of afternoon tea in one of London’s trendiest spots. Keep that pinky in the air!

The Harry Potter Bus Tour of London will cast a spell on your travelers as you tour film locations and inspirations throughout the city. All muggles will ride in the comfort of a coach to see highlights from all eight films. Perhaps a London Duck Tour may be just the thing to wet your feathers. There are several amphibious adventures from which to choose, each offering a unique perspective of England’s capital.

Freebies and Fees

One thing you should know about London when planning your trip is that many of its famous museums are FREE. Facilities like the National GalleryNatural History MuseumMuseum of London and more have no admission fees. That’s a good thing, especially when you consider that other activities in and around the city can be pricey. You do have to purchase in pounds (English currency), but the exchange rate for U.S. dollars is currently the best it’s been in years.

London is a great choice for your first foray into international travel with students. There’s so much history, tons to do and you students can PROBABLY understand the language (cough cough).
